New MacBook Pro M4 Pro 20-core GPU and Minecraft still lags – Feeling disappointed

Hey everyone,

I recently got a new MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro chip (14 CPU cores, 20 GPU cores, 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD). I was really excited to try Minecraft on it, especially since I upgraded from my 2015 MacBook Retina. While my old Mac couldn’t run Minecraft very smoothly either, I expected the new one to handle it effortlessly.

But now, I’m really disappointed. Minecraft still lags, and I don’t know what to do.

Here’s what’s happening:

The game starts fine and shows around 100 FPS for the first 5 seconds.

Then there’s a massive stutter or lag spike, and the frame rate drops to 20 FPS for about half a second.

This cycle keeps repeating, making the game feel choppy and frustrating.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

Reduced render distance to as low as 7 chunks.

Increased the RAM allocation for Minecraft to 10GB.

Made sure macOS and Minecraft are fully updated.

I’m running vanilla Minecraft – no shaders or mods.

I spent almost $3000 USD on this laptop, and while I know it’s not a gaming device, I at least expected it to run Minecraft smoothly.

Has anyone experienced similar issues on Apple Silicon Macs? Are there specific fixes or optimizations I might be missing?
